The Age of Wonder 3: A Tale of Three Units

In the world of Age of Wonders 3, strategy and efficiency are key to success. High Elves, in particular, have a unique ability to adapt to any situation with their versatile units. Instead of relying on traditional tanks, they can opt for three separate units that serve as both ranged damage dealers and physical/magic damage absorbers.

Firstly, there are the longbowmen, who can deal significant ranged damage while also serving as a defensive unit. Secondly, there are the sisters stacks, which provide additional physical and magic ranged damage capabilities. Finally, there is the awakening or culling the weak cultural ability, which allows High Elves to activate special abilities.

While some may argue that these support units are essential for success, others believe they are inefficient and should be replaced with combat units. In practice, these support units often fall short of expectations, providing little more than theoretical benefits on paper.

In contrast, Planetfall's approach to unit design was more straightforward, focusing on ranged nukers and full-offensive mods. This allowed players to prioritize killing enemies rather than wasting time buffing troops and dealing with the consequences.

AoW3, however, took a different approach by introducing battlemages that had good repeating attacks and were relatively effective in combat. High Elven Storm Sisters, in particular, stood out with their stun procs and melee high percentage chance of stunning ability, making them almost as good as archers and even better in melee/tanking situations.

In conclusion, replacing tier 2 support units with tier 1 archers can lead to faster enemy elimination and reduced damage received. Temp health healing provided by some support units is often inefficient and takes up valuable army slots that could be used for more effective combat units. In the end, it's all about adapting to situations and using the right units to achieve success.
